It hasn’t been a secret that Microsoft was looking to purchase Nokia’s Devices and Services unit, but after talks in June led nowhere, it was a forgone conclusion that the deal was effectively dead. Now, it seems that they were just trying to work on a better deal for Nokia to basically give Microsoft the run of the smartphone division.

The deal would allow Microsoft to have full run of the device market that Nokia has been running out of options in recent years. This move unites Windows Phone 8 with its biggest hardware supporter. However, in recent months, Nokia has been talking about how Microsoft hasn’t done its part in trying to make the Windows Phone 8 device more popular.
